We have two choices when it comes to bringing the revenue and expenditures in the budget closer together: reduce spending and increase revenue. Practically speaking, the discretionary spending portion of the budget is so small that, as long as we're not willing to discuss defense spending in a meaningful way (and we are demonstrably unwilling), there's simply no practical way to close the budgetary gap by reducing spending alone. Further, my view is that many of the kinds of services which would be stripped away in service of that goal are essential functions of government--things…  Read more

Almost 20% of federal public spending is on welfare programs, so if those funds were cut, much harm would come to citizens all over the US.

The wealthy do not make money the same way normal people do - take loans so they don't have to pay the taxes.

The wealthy are making more than the middle and poor class, and as a result, they should be taxed more as extremely rich people should not exist and it would balance it out a bit each and every single time.

I believe we should all pay the same based off overall income, and it's unfair to put the burden on the rich just because they are rich

They have a lot of money and they waste it like fools while the people without money struggle a lot to afford a house or a car, which are essential things everybody should be able to have.

theres no point in taxing the wealthy since the super wealthy would always find loopholes while the somewhat wealthy would just be caught in the crossfire

Austerity measures are not incompatible with taxes on the wealthy. If both are done together they would be far better at reducing debt.

 @B852PC5 from Wisconsin  disagreed…8mos8MO

No. I don't care who has more money or not but if you tax the "wealthy" there would be larger chances of weakening the U.S tax base. Also what on earth is that supposed to teach kids that are;t rich? That you don't have to work as hard because someone else will just pay? NO, not to mention, that as soon as they start taking on more taxes peope may start to feel more intitled when in reality, they are not

The wealthy are still the largest producers of manufacturing, tech, and service jobs in the United States and shouldn't be given higher taxes for their wealth.

 @B9HMGHCRepublican from California  disagreed…5mos5MO

It’s not fair to increase the taxes on the wealthy just because they are wealthy we should tax those who are caught evading taxes especially corporations.

 @B82ZMHPRepublican from New Mexico  disagreed…8mos8MO

Yes because taxing the wealthy just because they have more money is unfair because they just work or have worked harder then the rest.

 @B8276ZJ from Kentucky  disagreed…8mos8MO

They have the resources and capability to spend more money on anything, such as taxes, so if they have that luxury they should be paying higher in taxes.
