Relying on the church to be ultra-compassionate and left-wing while also assuming that the people will always make what's best for them happen overlooks a critical issue: power dynamics. Take, for instance, the medieval era when the church held significant power. Despite intentions of compassion, corruption was rampant, and the people's needs were often sidelined. If absolute power corrupts absolutely, wouldn't it be risky to entrust both religious and secular control to a single entity? How would you ensure that the people's voice remains heard without checks and balances?
