I believe in background checks, but I believe that is it. You can't have a gun if you're a felon, but that is it. It shouldn't be a crazy process to acquire a gun to protect yourself. More guns means more smart people carrying them.

They should be allowed to own guns at the age of 18 for protection and more but they should have there background checked before allowed to purchase a gun and they should be interviewed to or talk to more about guns and figure out the cause of purchase.

Gun control takes away one of the greatest deturants of government over reach and also it is in the constitution.

I agree with this, but there is no need for the interview. They can run a background check and that is all that needs to happen.

I agree with you on everything here. Just I believe that we need to tighten some loose holes in Gun Ownership.

well then what happens if someone come into your house with a gun and then what are u supposed to do. I HATE LIBERALS

The Second Amendment is the law of the land. Convicted felons should not be allowed to posess, though.

 @B8BHLKR from Virginia  agreed…8mos8MO

I do agree with this statement. To own a gun you need a good reason and I believe you should go through safety and background checks along with showing ID and signing a contract that the gun will only be used for reasons approved by the government.

 @B89T85Z from Illinois  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree because most people are able to get guns without any background check at all and end up doing bad things with the gun

 @B89PMBH from Georgia  agreed…8mos8MO

Yes, I agree. people carry guns for protection, which is needed because of the generation we are in. But I do feel as if parents shouldn't teach their children how to use a gun until they are above age and able to have the right mindset. But I do feel like 18 years old is too young to be able to purchase a firearm. 25 years old should be the age where people should be able to purchase guns and 18 years old is the age you start having practice for using them for when you are old enough to get one. The government and president should create a program where 18 year olds learn how to use guns and have that go on into they're 25 years old.

I agree, I don’t think taking away guns is a good response for gun violence but I do think much stricter enforcement needs to happen with them because they are very dangerous weapons that do kill and can easily fall into the wrong hands. I think that more intense background testing needs to happen, and a in depth test and if that person shows even a single sign that they are not capable of being safe with a weapon and using it properly and the way it is intended to be used then they should not be allowed to get one for atleast a few years and then be eligibility for retesting unless they demonstrate very concerning behaviors then they should have that privilege revoked entirely.

 @B89DMSJ from Virginia  agreed…8mos8MO

If it is really necessary to have a gun then strict restrictions and extensive background checks should be done

 @B89CDP2 from Oregon  agreed…8mos8MO

Yes, because there are too many school shootings nowadays that take the lives of too many young kids who have their whole lives ahead of them. Guns are too easy to get ahold of yet with one bullet can cost a life.

As much as I agree with this comment about Gun Control, abolishing gun ownership would reduce gun violence significantly. The 2nd amendment argued for the right to bear arms for militias. In an age where militias do not exist in the United States, there is no need for the right to bear arms. Personal security would be compromised, but it is necessary to compromise for a greater public good- the reduction of gun violence towards compromised communities.

 @B89C3SQDemocrat from California  agreed…8mos8MO

true but no one really be able to have guns. I get it home defense but innocent people are dying. Sorry!

 @B89BZGV  from California  agreed…8mos8MO

A background check, an interview, and an intention test are good ways to regulate gun ownership without stripping the right to own firearms as a whole, but I would also add the idea of a gun ownership license with "levels" much like those for automobiles, allowing different people different clearances for different classes of firearm based on their license, so that different people can acquire different firearms according to their needs (hunting, home defense, commercial/private security, etc.).
