Women are the only people capable of carrying and giving birth, and they should never be forced to live by the choices, comfort, or beliefs of men or anyone else. No one else is that woman, and no one truly understands the realities of her life, her body, or her circumstances.
Yes, two people may have had intercourse, but if they are not ready emotionally, mentally, physically, or financially then they should not be forced into parenthood. A man should not feel entitled or comfortable enough to impregnate a woman and then expect her to bear the lifelong consequences if she is not ready. The burden of pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery falls entirely on the woman, not equally on both parties.
A woman should have the right to choose what she believes is best for herself under any circumstance. There are over a million births every day across the world; one individual decision will not determine the fate of humanity. Claiming otherwise shows a refusal to consider the reality of women’s experiences through menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and the lifelong physical and emotional impacts that come with them.
And in cases of assault, the argument becomes even clearer. If a 14-year-old girl is assaulted and becomes pregnant as a result, why should she be forced to carry a pregnancy she did not choose one that could serve as a constant reminder of trauma and violence? Forcing her to give birth prioritizes ideology over her mental health, bodily autonomy, and basic humanity.
