any discussion of abortion and choice should stay between a woman and her physician. No one, government or otherwise should have the right to determine what is best for an individual medically. Who has the right to determine which life has more value? who has the right to say "you don't get a say in her health, or what happens to your body". Personal belief or opinion should not be a reason to remove access to medical care for many, nor take away rights to one's own body.

Fetal viability begins around 24 weeks. It is a woman's choice to keep or abort her baby. Would it be right for a child to be born into unfit circumstances? No. Health should be the most important thing at the end of the day. If a women's health is put to risk or she was raped and impregnated it is right for her to get proper treatment based on her own values. Never should it fall on the hands of a man to make decisions for a woman and her body. It would never pass the other way around.

Abortion is something that is never planned, it is for an emergency. If that specific woman is not ready to have a baby whether it was due to rape, incest, financial issues, mental health or any issue, then that woman should have the right to choose. It is the woman’s body and they should never get told to do something that would change their bodies/lives permanently. In the first trimester of pregnancy it should be allowed.

It is not wrong in all cases. In some cases the mother did not choose to become pregnant. There are many aspects that make it best for the mother to go through with the abortion. For example a teen mom, or someone was sexually assaulted, or it will cause the death of the mother if they keep the child, and in some cases it is not safe for the mother to have the baby due to their environment or other aspects.

the fetus can’t feel pain until after 12 weeks of conception but once a unwanted baby is born or a baby kills a single mom during birth or is born to abusive parents you end up with kids flooding foster care unstable living conditions depressed children hungry children kids who would have rather never been born people are pro life but don’t care about all the kids dying due to their unstable family or kids being abused or neglected in foster care if the mother has medical conditions she should have a right to her own body or if she has no complications at all but she’s not…  Read more

When a child is first conceived, it is not yet a human child because there is no brain or brain activity, no heart, and no vital organs. If you were to take out a newly conceived fetus, it would never be able to survive outside of a woman’s body. Woman who have a baby/fetus pass away in their stomach cannot always pass it naturally. Having a dead body or clump of cells can cause sepsis which can make the mother if not removed (which is also considered an abortion). If it were truly about protecting life, protecting the mother’s life is extremely important. A third reason of why…  Read more

Comparing women’s bodies to inanimate objects will never be a concrete reasoning to force them to give birth. There are countless circumstances where an abortion could be life saving, but even if the woman simply decides she doesn’t want to have a baby she should be able to make that decision with her own free will. There are limits set during a pregnancy for when an abortion can be done for a reason.

Women should have the choice whether to continue to provide resources to the fetus, or to cut off access. The fetus is stealing nutrients from her body, and she should have the choice whether to let it. It is her body, and whether she has this child or not does not affect a random stranger who does not support abortion. It should be the woman's choice and her choice alone what she wants to do with the fetus in her. She is the one who has to be pregnant for nine months, go through the pain of childbirth, and then spend the rest of her life with that child. This is a lifelong commitment…  Read more

A fetus is not conscious. It has no way of perceiving anything. They are proven to be parasitical to women's bodies and raising children is EXPENSIVE, especially with how the economy is today. If a pregnancy is terminated before the second trimester, that is between the mother, a present father, and their medical consultation. Not the government, not their friends or family, and definitely not concerned strangers. Abortion is NEVER wrong in cases of rape or incest, either. Rape is incredibly traumatizing and carrying, birthing, and then having to care for the child of the rapist is a horrible reality too many women have had to live.

If the embryo does not have a heart beat or cannot survive outside the womb until 20-24 weeks, it does not have the same rights as a living human being

 @B9H6C39 from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

At the point of conception the “baby” is only considered as an embryo scientifically. When shown a human embryo vs. a dolphin embryo there’s hardly a difference. The embryo has not developed any senses and such which is why they can’t be considered as an actual living and breathing human.

 @B9HZTH3Democrat from Virginia  disagreed…5mos5MO

I disagree with this because when conception occurs, the baby is not technically a baby. According to science, it is a zygote, then an embryo, then a fetus, then a baby. The baby does not have a soul yet. Therefore, abortion is not murder.

 @B9FW6WW from Indiana  disagreed…6mos6MO

if you would take time to learn about the process of birth, then you would know that when the sperm meets the egg there is no life until a few weeks in. Meaning that there is not living thing in the human body.

 @B9GBDMR from Florida  disagreed…6mos6MO

It's not murder. If I were to destroy an apple seed, I didn't destroy an apple, I just destroyed the seed. In context with a fetus, killing a fetus who has no organs developed or a conscious, aborting it isn't murder. I wouldn't say taking someone off of life support is murder, so I don't think abortion is either.

 @B9FGK2G from Florida  disagreed…6mos6MO

A fetus doesn't fully develop a heart beat until the six or seventh week meaning its technically not alive

 @B9FK25GPeace and Freedom from California  disagreed…6mos6MO

A fetus is a clump of cells and therefore has no feelings and will not know if it is aborted or was even “alive” at one point.

 @B9G9HNMProgressive from Tennessee  disagreed…6mos6MO

Engaged Abortion

No human has the right to infringe on the bodily autonomy of any other human. We do not harvest organs from dead people who did not consent to donating. We do not force living people to donate organs if they are unwilling, even if they technically could. It is equally wrong to demand women risk their lives in pregnancy and childbirth and to donate their bodies to fetuses in this way.

 @B9FKMVBProgressivefrom Maine  disagreed…6mos6MO

If it's growing, then it's alive and if it's parents are human, then the offspring is human, then same logic should apply to animals too. Chicken's egg would be considered chicken. Vegetarianism is opposition to animal cruelty and exploitation. However, they can eat eggs, but some may not prefer. Eggs and milk are considered vegetarian foods because they do not involve the direct slaughter of animals. The yolk and white are nutrients for a potential embryo.

 @B9K3ZVJNo Labels from Virginia  disagreed…5mos5MO

The child is not living until roughly week 23. Abortion should be allowed if the woman was raped, victim of incest, or put forth an effort of not getting pregnant (birth control, condoms, etc).

 @B9G5GHWSocialist from North Carolina  disagreed…6mos6MO

when you take a fertilized egg out of a woman..it cant grow without the mother its not conscious up until the point it is birthed from a woman so there is no pain that the fetus feels. If you did abort it.

 @B9SGVP4  from Michigan  commented…5mos5MO

The fetus depends on the mother for life. At around 23-24 weeks the fetus may be taken out and survive in a NICU. No United States citizen is currently being forced to donate blood or organs, so why should a woman be forced to do that for an unborn fetus?

 @omg123Green from New York  agreed…5mos5MO

Engaged Social Issues Engaged Abortion

Human embryos are not people with rights or moral value. Personhood requires at the very least the capacity for developing consciousness, which is not possible until the 24th week of gestation, at which point >99% of abortions have already occurred.

Conception cannot define personhood, since identical twins form from a single conception yet are distinct people, and chimeras form from multiple conceptions yet are a single person. Brains are what determine personhood, not genes, or conception, or even bodies (conjoined twins are different people sharing a single body from a single conception).

 @B9G7S5P from Illinois  disagreed…6mos6MO

Wrong because at conception it is only a clump of cells. It has not developed any major parts of a living human, therefore it’s not murder.

 @B9GX9S9 from North Dakota  disagreed…5mos5MO

I dont agree with the moment of conception it is a living human. Onced the baby is one its own breathing in the womb or out fo the body then it would be a living human. THe offspring can die int he womb and it coudl be considered neglect if adoration is murder. Just because it is given the same nutrients then you and me doesn't mean its a human being. There are emany technically when it comes to what is considered murder besides just straight up murder. Would you rather a baby be born in a horrible situation and bring a innocent child to live a miserable life.
