I don't believe Critical Race Theory should be taught in K-12 schools since it extends beyond teaching of history, and begins to mold young people's perspectives on the world around them. Given that racial tensions have become so volatile in America currently, I fear introducing Critical Race Theory into public classrooms will create further division, and that students will begin to view one another through racial lens (as opposed to simply being classmates). While I am adamant that students should be educated about the history of slavery, segregation and racism; I firmly believe that this can be accomplished through factual historical accounts alone, and not through a framework that separates students into "Privileged" and "Oppressed." Younger students, who are still developing their sense of self and moral compass, may be most adversely affected by this type of education, and as such, what is learned in school has a significant impact on how young people think for the remainder of their lives. School systems should be focused on education and unity, and not on educating or "brainwashing" young people with lessons designed to indoctrinate them into a specific political ideology as they mature.

I agree with this statement. Kids at this age are extremely impressionable and can easily be influenced if not taught the proper moral values. If these children were to learn of theories and mindsets that simply divide students into those who are considered better or worse than others, it would most definitely result in a more hostile and divided environment. Children should be taught not to see color, and work to ensure that everyone can be accepted.

Critical race theory affects society to this day. If someone is young enough to experience racism they are young enough to learn what it is and how it affects their relationships with others. Also, people talk about slavery, segregation, and racism like it was so long ago but less than 3 generations ago peoples families were experiencing these things everyday.

America has always been divided. It is ignorance and fear that keep us from seeing eye to eye. If we can build a collective understanding as to the roots and expansion of oppression, we come a lot closer to being able to dismantle them. Otherwise, we maintain an oppressive Status Quo. It is worth trying to move forward. CRT has to be at least a move toward a solution, even if it is not the perfect solution, because the current attempts at solutions have not been effective.
