Critical race theory is something they is very real in our world, the US has always been inherently racist, important to show students of young age how the US acted. The US has always been an oppressive state of colonial power and we still are, noting in the world is going to change if we don't learn from our mistakes that are still happening to this day which they shouldn't be.

 @9GG4CV8  from North Dakota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The usa is not an oppressive state. It is like any other country in the world, it has made mistakes. Thankfully, we have been trying to correct these mistakes, however, throwing money at the issue does not fix it. The only way to fix these mistakes is smart legislation and time.

 @9GHKYDP from Iowa  disagreed…3yrs3Y

every race are equal no race is better or worse there is no need to make white kids thing they are inferior because they are white you can just flip the script of what happened 100+ years ago white privlage isnt a thing all races can be getto,gangsters,ect just be a normal human and dont be evil.

 @9GGWBL3 from Oregon  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The US was not built on racism. It was built by Coloints sure but that was over 200 years ago. We need to calm down and realize that not everything is racist. We shouldn't be raising children to either believe they are horrible because of their skin color or need extra help and assistance because of their skin color. It's wrong. Yes, I feel strongly about this.

 @9GG8KR4Republican from Kansas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

children do not need to be told that one race is this bad one and the other ones are right and good all this creates is separation and leaves a bad mark on everyone having people grow up to resent one race

 @oceanwaterbella  from Florida  disagreed…9mos9MO

Teaching Critical Race Theory in K-12 gives young children a divisive and negative perception about their immutable characteristics. It is immoral to influence our young on ideas that people belonging to one race are oppressors and others are victims. We should rather teach our young children about resilience and how to rise above outward appearances and history and influence acceptance among our children.

 @B7F9RB6 from California  agreed…9mos9MO

We should be educating children with facts not by pressing personal opinions on your minds. I think it depends on what age because young kids do not need to know about politics yet, but when they get older if they are presented with info and given the choice to state and make they're own opinion that will create confidence to speak up.

 @B7F8TNJ from Florida  agreed…9mos9MO

We could just teach kids to all respect and love one another and not see anyone for the skin color but their merit.

 @B7FBK27 from California  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree. While I do believe teaching history is important, and that people should be educated about how certain communities ended up where they currently are, it is immoral to teach these children to value race in any way. CRT teaches that we should judge on race first, and I believe that that is not a moral or correct lens through which people should be viewed. Jobs should hire based on competency, and we should not be teaching “oppressed” and “oppressor” simply because of skin color, because that is a harmful, racist ideology.

 @B7HTFP9 from Indiana  agreed…9mos9MO

Race is a social construct. If people complain about racism, then removing the idea of race in schools at the youngest, most impacting development based years, would in theory make racism moot in the future generations.

 @B7S7RWQ  from Tennessee  disagreed…8mos8MO

If we teach Critical Race Theory, then we are as on now teaching Caucasian children they are guilty of a crime they never committed and that they will further commit it. If we teach children to be color blind there would be no or very little racism

 @B7SBLGQIndependent from New York  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree, same goes with minority children feeling they are disadvantaged because of their skin color. Mindset goes a long way and if you believe that you will be naturally less successful children of such a race's progression through society will be harmed.

 @B7TVN2C from Florida  agreed…8mos8MO

Kids shouldn't hear about Caucasian people being racists towards other races when they are just kids. They don't even know what the word racist means in 1st grade how are they supposed to learn about it and even be afraid that they are racist. This topic would only be appropriate for teenagers. Scientifically proven, racisms number one cause is being exposed to it by family, friends, or other adults. If schools teach kids that Caucasians are racist they will automatically assume that and Caucasian students at the school will feel guilty over soemthing they never did.

 @B7WYC77Constitution from North Carolina  commented…8mos8MO

Even though children at a young age should not be taught what racism is, when they do get a little older it is important for them to know how far we've come as a country and a land of equality.

 @B7SDHRV from Georgia  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree absolutely. People need to stop playing the victim and understand that life is difficult for everyone. I hate the fact that life is unfair, some people are born into rich families and some are born with nothing. However, I would rather have the opportunity to become wealthy and live a good life under capitalistic society, than to forever be stuck in a world where laziness is rewarded the same as a hard worker(socialism).

 @B7S9PR4 from New Jersey  agreed…8mos8MO

No we shouldn't be teaching this. First of all, people of many racial back round commit crimes to, so it is not fair to teach that mainly Caucasians are "guilty of a crime." Also, if they have never committed a crime there would be no point in teaching this. Also, the Caucasian children may develop self hate and depression knowing that they are "guilty of crimes." This depression or self-hate might cause psychological issues and perhaps causing the children to actually commit a crime in the future.

 @9GR44ZCRepublican  from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I strongly disagree with the Critical Race Theory, because it is turning children against the U.S. and saying that the U.S. is racist.

 @9GSZ44P from Colorado  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree with the comment. Its 2023, black and white people are treated the same. Nobody treats black people bad, statistics show black and colored people commit more crimes then white people. So from a police standpoint, of course cops are going to be more concered with colored people. They cause more issues.

 @39G3FC5Democratdisagreed…3yrs3Y

statistics show black and colored people commit more crimes then white people

I don't even have time to get into everything about this comment, but here is a loose summary: This is (1) incorrect and even if it was correct it would be (2) an oversimplification. Do you mean crime in general? Violent crime? Blue-collar crime? (3) If we are speaking generally, statistics show that white people commit more crimes than people of color (though I'll give it to you that it is only slightly more) mostly because it's a numbers game: white people are the majority. Think about how likely it is that the group representing the majority of the U.S. population (white people) would for some reason be the minorityRead more

 @9JJ99LTLibertarianfrom Pennsylvania  commented…2yrs2Y

In absolute terms, more crimes are committed by whites, but the rates are higher among blacks, at least when it comes to violent crime. This is the main reason why blacks have higher incarceration rates and why they're more likely to get shot by police.

 @B47VTYGCommunist from Washington  commented…1yr1Y

Thats statistically impossible are you saying black people do 10x more crime then white people? especially since most of the WORLD is white people with 10% being african

 @9GR4RN5 from Arkansas  agreed…3yrs3Y

I do agree with this statement. I believe a lot of politics/what is being taught in school is dividing the American people. The majority of people (at least the ones I have spoken to) Do not care about critical race theory. All it is doing is dividing our people and causing more issues than there needs to be.

 @9GR5M5S from Maryland  agreed…3yrs3Y

i agree with this, schools should not be teaching this to kids since especially in k-8 kids are very impressionable and will belive everything they hear even if its not true

 @9GTFPKV from Colorado  agreed…3yrs3Y

I support local schools choosing to teach kids what they want in respect to race however I would oppose a local battle against schools to fight critical race theory.

 @B5ZGVNGRepublican  from Illinois  disagreed…11mos11MO

Learning that whites are inherently racist is actively teaching racism. Learning that your race is "evil" is the same rhetoric that led to our current environment. To avoid this environment we need to properly teach history and not cancel or eliminate it from educational institutions and public spaces.

 @B6GWNLJfrom Guam  disagreed…11mos11MO

Instead of removing a very integral part of how the US came to be— building upon the bodies of those it enslaved and massacred– we should think about white people can learn from it instead, and prevent what happened in the past to happen again

 @9GW47R7  from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It causes black people to have a victim mentality and puts them in the position everyone is trying to prevent. Everyone should be seen as equal, but when you continue to bring up how different everyone is, it will never go away.

 @9GW4VVR from Alabama  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It isn't a cause of pointing out the difference to divide people. It's to bring in history and understanding of one another. To dismantle hatred that children are raised into by teaching them an understanding of other races.

 @9FYS4HXIndependent  from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The Critical Race theory assumes that everyone is inherently racist. We put racism behind us long ago and the people saying that anyone is racist at this point is causing further racism. In our current state, white males are said to be privileged but there are numerous points to prove the opposite and that more opportunities are given to everyone else from all the programs supporting women's, immigrants, racial (Black, Asian, etc.) that white people don't have that at this point, white people are often discriminated against now because of what HALF of the white male population in the USA did Centuries ago.

 @9GZPMXS  from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

and the people saying that anyone is racist at this point is causing further racism

I definitely think people are still racist today and that racism exists. Calling out racism is perfectly acceptable and fine. However, this is not any reason for kids to be taught CRT. No one is inherently racist or inherently disadvantaged because of their race. Saying that is ignorant and causes harm to society by creating further tensions. Calling out individual racist people is fine but calling an entire race of people "racist" is plain idiocy.

 @9FYVC8YSocialist from Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think the biggest reason we should teach critical race theory is a) not everyone is white, and b) critical race theory just means we are teaching history while being critical of it's inherent bias

 @9FYS4HXIndependent  from Idaho  commented…3yrs3Y

Bias towards whom? The only Bias would be the people winning the wars vs the people losing them "the winners write history" there isn't bias and at the moment, the history is written as it happened and people have gotten the recognition deserved and rights/amendments have been put in place. Yes we should learn from history, yes we should teach about the slavery, but there's no need to accent it from a "racist" point of view. While it's true that amendments have been made and progress has been achieved, it's important to remember that remnants of past injustices can still have an impact on the present. Critical race theory does not aim to say that all people are racist, but instead it seeks to examine the ways in which systemic racism has shaped and continues to influence societal structures and institutions. For instance, consider the topic of redlining. Though legally abolished, the impact of this discriminatory practice is still visible today in the form of wealth and education gaps. This is rarely ever true. White people aren't facing mass amounts of discrimination and prejudice because of their past. While it is true that discrimination against white people is higher than it was in the past, it is nowhere near a level of actual relevance

 @9ZVZVDL from Idaho  commented…2yrs2Y

This really depends on where you live. I lived in a blue state for a couple of years and every now and then had some people who labeled people like me as someone who seemed racist just because I was a straight white male. Now in the red state I live in, there really isn't much racism here when compared to where I once was.

 @B7WWTHR  from Massachusetts  disagreed…8mos8MO

Race is not a social construct, there is a difference between men and women biologically. That would also apply for race, we shouldn't make our children ashamed of being white, they should be proud. This has no place in our schools and it is time wasted in their education.

 @B7Y4BJ3Independent from Iowa  agreed…8mos8MO

Disagree. While they are not wrong about biology, race is fundamentally different; no race is worse. Howeve,r these things need to be taught because discrimination is very bad.

 @B7X5SS4 from Indiana  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree. Race is a difference in people but we shouldn't have to teach young children that they're different just because of their skin color. These children shouldn't have to learn to be ashamed because of their race which is something that they can't control. Teaching this is a way of teaching racism and its a waste of education.

 @B7YZBMK from Missouri  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree with this, I also think that it shouldn’t just be “I’m proud because I’m white” it should be “I’m proud because I am human” at the end of the day, we’re all humans and should treat each other with the respect and dignity we would want to receive.

 @B7ZP5JQ from Indiana  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree with this statement. School is a place of learning. It is to prepare children for life and teach them the concepts of math, reading, etc. The schools do not need to make white children feel as if they have to be ashamed of being white and they also do not need to teach black children or any other races to feel that they are victims or that they have inequalities to white children. We are all human at the end of the day. Nobody is superior to anybody.

 @ZandwaalfRepublican  from Ohio  disagreed…6mos6MO

Children should not be taught that they are automatically disadvantaged by the mere color of their skin. This just contributes to racism and keeps it coming. Not teaching it would teach children that all are equal and that everyone should have a fair chance. As time goes on, we will get more socially and technologically advanced as a nation, and the act of not teaching Critical Race Theory will help us grow as a society, wheras teaching it would only slow us down by referencing the past instead of trying to improve and move forward.

 @B8ZSBHQfrom Guam  agreed…6mos6MO

Yes, diversity is what makes racial bigotry gone therefor a nation can build peace within their community. Equality is crucial to avoid any race supremacy or entitlement.

 @B8ZSKBB from Iowa  agreed…6mos6MO

i agree with this because there is no disadvantages to being a different color its just a way for people to complain more and be at the top of the list

 @B8ZSJGJ from Utah  agreed…6mos6MO

I completely agree with this. I think that children that don't even understand it don't need to learn about it.

 @B8ZSTXZRepublican from Utah  agreed…6mos6MO

I agree, teachers should not teach critical race theory in elementary school. We need to establish equality between all children.

 @B7XT64D  from Connecticut  disagreed…8mos8MO

Critical race theory is a mad duo concept to derive young white kids pride in their skin because of their ancestors. It is created to make white people feel bad about racism and blacks to feel good. It is completely bull **** and should never even have even have been created.

 @B7Z2C3R  from Indiana  agreed…8mos8MO

This whole comment is very offensive and racist in itself. I believe that people should know the whole truth about our history like if history had no filter. People should feel bad that their ancestors were killers, racist, and bad people. The whole theory shouldn't be built to make one side feel better over another EVER.

 @B7Y75L4Democrat from Arizona  agreed…8mos8MO

no it isn't, young white kids should be told that the majority of white prejudice, something that exists even now and will never disappear unless action is taken.

 @B7YBS2G from Texas  agreed…8mos8MO

I somewhat agree because why make everybody feel like they're different just because of skin color, it also could encourage more racism because of the pride it may bring to some kids.

 @B7Y7D45 from Texas  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree because people are not inherently racist, it is a theme pushed by the government. All different kinds of people are racist, black people, white people, asian people, hispanic people, all of the above.

 @B79C9Y9Republican  from Virginia  disagreed…9mos9MO

so you want to teach kids racism? why would anyone want to teach there kid that other peoples skin colors are different your setting ur child up to look at people different.

 @B79JHWT from California  agreed…9mos9MO

It should be taught in the context of history and natural evolution and a byproduct of Natural Ethnic Feature Favoritism. It is natural for humans to favor their own ethnicity and culture, especially when in the content of the majority or ruling sect of a society. The phenomenon can be found all over the world and in every country. Europeans creating our modern notions of science tried to apply science to NEFF to explain how the world operated and were as result misguided by their lack of knowing.

 @B79DR8R from Pennsylvania  agreed…9mos9MO

This comment misunderstands critical race theory. First the academic theory that race is a social construct, upon which power structures are built, and that these structures must be dismantled through criticism along racial lines, raises questions about the veracity of its assumptions and the ethics of what this 'dismantling' looks like. Secondly, what people often object to on the grounds that it is 'critical race theory' is actually just just racial hatred and inequity directed primarily whites, but also other racial minorities, with 'blackness' as the new standard.

 @B79H33NRepublican from California  agreed…9mos9MO

I entirely agree, I work with kids, and how the other children look does not affect them, nor do they think about it until it is prompted, and it sets children up to look at others differently than they would .

 @B79DPLT from Illinois  agreed…9mos9MO

Yes because the less we talk about race the more that people with see each other as people instead of racial groups.

 @9GMWN9B  from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Kids are incredibly influenced by everything and everyone that surrounds them, so if we teach kids of color that everything is stacked against them, they're going to wonder why they even bother trying. Or, they'll develop a subconscious resentment towards white people, and that resentment will only breed more discontent between the races.

 @9GS3L3ZSocialist from Kansas  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree, kids that grow up in diverse communities and aren't told to always be aware of another race or that they won't have the same opportunities because of the color of their skin can be detrimental. Children today see that they can succeed if they work hard for the skills and reach their goals. They shouldn't be raised with the mentality of one against the other.

 @9GRZPV7 from Kansas  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree, putting kids into those situations i feel would not help things get better and ruin their view on people of color when they are older.

 @9GS6P29 from Arizona  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree one hundred percent. Kids learning these principles will consistently have a victim mentality after learning this and not learn how to deal with hard things in life and when bad things happen to them they will narrow it down to the color of their skin and not their actions and consequences and just the natural bad things that happen in life.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

First of all, if this is what you're assuming is going to be learned from CRT, then you obviously don't understand CRT. Secondly, how would someone even tell the difference between "having a victim mentality" vs "actually being a victim", and why do you assume the former?

 @9GS5T9C from New York  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Instead of thinking that the critical race theory will make kids resent white people, people should consider the educational benefits. Critical Race theory will help kids be sympathetic and fair towards all people of different colors, teaching them it's wrong to favor one race over the other.

 @9GMWN9B from California  commented…3yrs3Y

I agree kids should learn how to treat everyone fairly regardless of race, but I don't think that should be the school's job to teach them that. That's up to the parents. Unfortunately not everyone is going to learn that and in an already terrible American school education system, I'd rather my kids be taught about arithmetic, reading at a college level, science, etc.

 @B7BMMWG  from New Jersey  disagreed…9mos9MO

MLK once said "I have a dream where my children will be judged not for the color of their skin, but for the content of their character". Constantly teaching children about racism and talking about how "The white man is bad" will always make race the forefront of their thinking, which goes against what MLK said.

 @B7BPZWH from Virginia  agreed…9mos9MO

Race is taught. If you teach children from an early age that some kids have an advantage over other kids or have a disadvantage because of their skin, you’re creating more of a racial divide than what would have been there.

 @B7C52Y2 from Minnesota  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree that teaching kids about racism will make them see race. If you just let kids be kids they won’t notice race.

 @B7C372X from Indiana  agreed…9mos9MO

I just think racsim is taught. Don't even put a thought of skin color in the childrens' minds to begin with.

 @B7CC95S from California  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree with this comment because the man who led the push to end racism against African Americans also agrees that nobody should be judged for the color of their skin, including white people. Everyone has changed and evolved over time, and people of today cannot be judged for the actions of yesterday.

 @Beau-Robards  from Indiana  disagreed…8mos8MO

Critical race teaches racism as if all whites are born racist and all blacks are born oppressed kids are not born either of these they are born as people.

 @B7ZFHQ2 from Minnesota  agreed…8mos8MO

People need to stop living like they are a victim and trying to experience a past event that never happened in their lives and never opressed them. We live in America, where all of us, regardless of race, can do whatever we want if we work hard and put our mind to it, and your skin color is not a factor in how well you do. You need to stop pulling the victim card.

 @B82MW5B from New York  agreed…8mos8MO

I believe that nobody is inherently racist, and to tell a white person that they were born racist is a racist accusation. You can not put a label on an entire ethnic group. People are people.

 @B84ZKRQ from California  agreed…8mos8MO

This theory is racist in itself by saying all people of a certain color is this or that but yes we are all born as equal people no matter the color of our skin.

 @B84K534  from New York  agreed…8mos8MO

I completely agree with this statement. We should live in a society that doesn't differentiate by the color of your skin. The more we talk about race as an issue, the more it gets planted into the minds of people that we are different and that creates division. We are all humans, let's treat each other as such and not differentiate because of how we look.

 @9FVH6G7  from Florida  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that it is important to educate children about the past. I also feel it is important to learn from the past and move on from it rather than continue to teach children that they are more or less “privileged” based on the color of their skin. I feel that this only perpetuates divisiveness, hate, and racism. We can teach history without using children to further a political agenda which is what this really comes down to.

 @9FVHSD5 from Georgia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Kids need to understand how the world works there is no moving on from the past especially since some of those kids will still be feeling the effects of the critical race theory. Kids need to understand these things so they wont be ignorant to these things as they grow older.

 @9LRWLH7  from Georgia  disagreed…9mos9MO

Teaching students that they are inherently racist or privileged creates more division within the school community.

 @B75ZWV6  from Alabama  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree, but attempting to raise student to be racially colorblind cannot be successful because of the existing infrastructure that contains racial biases. The future youth will encounter these biases, so it is better for them to be well-informed of the racial inequalities that plague our nation then face them blindly.

 @B75XXJC from California  disagreed…9mos9MO

If the child is more educated on the topic kids will be significantly less racist in the next generation

 @B9PQ8K2  from Kentucky  disagreed…5mos5MO

 @B9RDZYM  from West Virginia  agreed…5mos5MO

I agree that they should not shoulder the blame for it, but they must learn in depth about what has been done.

 @B9QBK4V from Montana  agreed…5mos5MO

#3 Expert Counter Argument

Agreed, if children are taught from a young age that our institutions are inherently racist, then, in turn, it teaches children dangerous stereotypes, and it teaches them to "distinguish" groups of people (from themselves) in harmful ways.

 @B9T5RC2Independent from California  agreed…5mos5MO

I don't agree with critical race theory being taught in k-12. there is little fact based in in critical race theory, and rather than studying the racial influence of the past and examining how that impacted society, it radicalizes each race for the things that they've done bad and creates a divide amongst people.

 @9FZBQH2  from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

This feeds into the ideology of hatred between many groups of people. People will have more incentive to be divided between themselves. we should all strive to paint a picture of togetherness within the groups of the world.

 @9FZDXDD  from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

My best counter argument is that kids shouldn't need to deal with that at such a young age. Besides that, if such student is in high school or even middle school, they should be allowed to learn as they deserve

 @J0intResolPlatypus from Texas  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree, dealing with complex issues like critical race theory can be quite challenging for young minds. For instance, imagine a 3rd grader trying to grapple with the nuances of systemic racism or institutional bias, it could potentially create unnecessary confusion and distress. However, as they advance into high school, and their cognitive abilities develop, introducing such topics could foster critical thinking and empathy. How do you think we can ensure a balanced approach in teaching such complex topics to younger students?

 @9FZDNJ2 from Connecticut  agreed…3yrs3Y

No, because the past of a race doesn't define anybody, the entire idea of critical race theory is racist in of itself.

 @9FZG8JF from Virginia  agreed…3yrs3Y

No, young kids/students don't deserve to lose their sanctity of mental freedom from outside issues, especially in K-12.

 @9FZCNJ3Republican from California  agreed…3yrs3Y

CRT is a extremely authoritarian and an offensive collectivist monologue that advocates for the following:

A. Racism is present in all aspects of life, every relationship, and all interactions and therefore you must look for it everywhere.

B. Interest convergence is where white people only give Black people, opportunities and freedoms when it is in their own interest, and therefore any attempt to nullify racism is invalid.

C. To treat race issues as socially constructed groups, so individuality cannot exist.

D. Science, data and evidence is a white way of knowing.

E. Disagreements with anything to do with critical race theory or anti-racism training means you are inherently racist

None of these things are remotely helpful, progressive or a good thing for the world or America.

 @B9S8LN8 from Georgia  agreed…5mos5MO

people will always seek ties to what they want to believe and as thus it is exclusively detrimental to our society to focal our future generations perspective through the lenses of blaming the system as objectively wrong rather than seeking specific reform.

 @B9SB3CP from Texas  agreed…5mos5MO

I would agree with this statement. CRT seems to sow division and mistrust when there shouldn’t be any. Focus needs to be put on what brings us together, while acknowledging the sins of the past.

 @B9VKN65 from Texas  agreed…5mos5MO

I do agree with this comment on Critical Race Theory, I do not believe that it is a beneficial thing to be teaching our youth. I believe that the less we bring up why we are different and what seperates us, the less it will matter.

 @9FVZXGTProgressive from Iowa  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Critical Race Theory is essential to understanding the history of the United States of America and how it affects day to day life for minority races living in the States.

 @9FVZVJX from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Fundamentally, to understand history on a nuanced level, some extent of critical race theory is important to be taught.

 @BBPH7Y6  from Michigan  disagreed…4mos4MO

Elementary and middle school students wont understand it as much. Teaching student and kids that the system and world is actively against them can deter them from trying to better their lives and try to get good jobs. This can demotivate them from going out of their confort zone and trying to do well in school and out of school. We should teach the awful history of racism of our country, but we should teach kids not to be racist and try to create a school system where everyone is equal

 @BBRDQQJ from Illinois  agreed…4mos4MO

I think that we should be teaching history and racism to older kids like high school age so that we try to prevent racism and the promote equality and that everyone is the same no matter their race

 @BBS7PRM from Florida  agreed…4mos4MO

the students should be taught that everyone has a choice, but racism has happened but should be stiped due to arguments from both sides.
