Let's say a police officer is trying to calm down a child holding a metal bar and all the sudden he swings it at the officer and he has a split second to react. Here are the mistakes he could make without the proper experience he can reach for his gun by accident instead of the taser on reflex and kill the kid this would be bad, but if he has the experience he would be to make split second decisions instead of going by pure reflex and taze him to immobilize the child instead of shooting him with a bullet which could likely kill him.

While reducing military-style equipment may sound appealing, some police departments argue that certain tools are necessary to protect officers and the public in high-risk situations, such as active shooter incidents or terrorist threats. Removing these resources could make it harder for law enforcement to respond effectively to dangerous emergencies.

The police are there to protect the civilized from the uncivilized. The police are needed or anarchy will consume the world. I believe however the police should be held to a high standard and accountable for their actions. I believe that the police should be extensively trained and given regular mental checks throughout their career.
