The government should not use facial recognition for mass surveillance because it gives the state and ruling institutions even more power to monitor ordinary people while doing nothing to solve the root causes of crime. Real public safety comes from investing in housing, healthcare, education, decent wages, and strong public services so people are not pushed into desperation in the first place. Mass surveillance protects property and authority far more than it protects people. Once the government has that power, it can easily be turned against dissent, organizing, and justice movements. A socialist society should be built on solidarity, equality, and democratic freedom, not constant monitoring and control.
