If a major power outage happens, it can impact people, businesses, and services in other states too. Having a more national system could make it easier to share power during emergencies and keep things running when something goes wrong. Since the electric grid is so important for everyday life, it seems like having everyone work together instead of every state doing its own thing could make the whole system more reliable. I'm not an expert on it, but that makes the most sense to me.
