We cannot keep holding people accountable for the actions of the past. There are plenty of ways to discuss racism without forcing it upon on our children. We make racism a continuing issue by refusing to move on from the actions of past generations.

Teaching about systemic racism and historical inequality is important, but waiting until students are teenagers makes sense because older students have the cognitive maturity to understand complex social issues. Research proves that structured, age-appropriate lessons on racism can reduce bias and improve empathy, but introducing these topics too early risks confusion, superficial understanding, or emotional overwhelm. Teenagers are also better positioned to engage critically with history, civics, and current events, allowing them to see connections between past injustices and present dispari…  Read more

Classes focused on racism can feel ineffective or exaggerated when they seem to place too much blame on certain groups instead of encouraging real learning. Some students may feel the course pushes a one sided message rather than promoting open discussion or understanding different viewpoints.

 @B8R4N6JRepublican from Alabama  disagreed…7mos7MO

I agree with this, we should learn about critical race theory at a appropriate age. however it should not be prioritized over other lessons.

 @B8R5859No Labels  from Virginia  disagreed…7mos7MO

our current understanding of this issue is very one sided politically and you can't just trap kids in a box and act like your personal political opinion is the only and the best one. that seems quite nieve in a social standpoint, thinking your opinion is always best.

 @B8R3Z8VRepublican from Utah  disagreed…7mos7MO

I was taught to live as a child and I only learnt of race in the 8th grade, and it didn't change how I treated those of color I know. All should be raised racially colorblind.

 @9GJSXT4Independent from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Why should Critical race theory ever be taught to anyone? This is a tool being used to divide America. We should be focusing on uplifting the people, not focusing on differences.

 @B84Z458  from Ohio  disagreed…8mos8MO

No one at any age should be taught Critical Race Theory, period. It is a racist ideology and should never be taught.

 @B89JSL9 from Texas  disagreed…8mos8MO

Yes, we shouldn't teach it to the young, but for older kids, It allows us to learn and understand what we should do.

 @B89CFD8 from Texas  agreed…8mos8MO

Yes, I agree with this comment on critical race theory as I am fine with it being taught in history or etc., but not as an absolute truth (hence the "theory" portion of the name).

 @B89C4LP from California  agreed…8mos8MO

I agree because why are schools focusing on race and that white people are evil and people of color have it harder just because of their race?

 @9GJMHK4  from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If schools cannot teach religion or gun safety, schools should definitely not tell students false news about how the United States has always been racist, because it hasn't.

 @9GJQ257 from Iowa  agreed…3yrs3Y

I believe the other has a great point but it's still something people should talk about because there were moments back then that are worth teaching.

 @9FMYNYD from Georgia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I don't have one. But I do believe that children should be taught color blind in schools because school is a very effective place or a place that can have more of an imprint in their teachings.

 @B9XBDYB  from Idaho  agreed…5mos5MO

Around age 11 or 12, children enter the Formal Operational Stage. This is the first time the human brain is biologically capable of abstract reasoning and "thinking about thinking."

 @B9Y4QDP from California  disagreed…5mos5MO

Just because they are initially biologically capable of understanding does not mean that they are protected from harmful ideals. There are basic bipartisan things that need to be taught, math, science, english, but they need to be taught without a lens to be sure that the child is able to form their own opinion when they are older.

 @B9XZSBJ from Florida  disagreed…5mos5MO

I believe everyone has an opportunity to live the life they want to and they have to put work in to get where they want to. Not told that they are everyone else and can't do anything about it.

 @B9XYY8P  from California  disagreed…5mos5MO

Critical race theory is racist in itself and has no modern backing showing that white men/women have any government or fundamental advantage over anyone else, teaching this to children 12 and under who are more likely to absorb information with no self ideals to reflect off of is inherently wrong and immoral

 @9FPL4FZProgressive from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teenagers are influenced extremely easy, and telling a teenager that he/she is less important/more important due to their skin color is dangerous to their mental health.

 @9GYWPMZIndependent from Tennessee  agreed…3yrs3Y

Teenagers are growing to being adults and can understand a topic way better then someone who might not understand the concept of racism.

 @9GZ6SVRdisagreed…3yrs3Y

Critical Race Theory teaches minority children that they cannot succeed and teaches white students that they are to blame for all problem in minority groups.

 @9GKWN87 from Kentucky  disagreed…3yrs3Y

No, we should not teach teenagers Critical Race Theory (CRT) either, we should not attempt to "teach" anybody let alone children, that there is an underlying division between them just because of their race. It is believed that teenagers in High School will NOT mature anymore after graduating or dropping out, this means

 @9GKXK5J from Illinois  agreed…3yrs3Y

I don’t think we need to teach kids the importance of different races people are people color is color but doesn’t define a person and as kids they don’t look at skin really and say he’s different that will come as they get older.

 @9GKX4TVRepublican from Nevada  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree. Teaching people that the system is racist is false. Some people are racist, but the system isn't.

 @9GKXFGP from New York  agreed…3yrs3Y

I agree, but I don't think Critical Race Theory should be allowed to be taught in schools becasue it's hateful and divisive.

 @9GXYCR8 from Georgia  agreed…3yrs3Y

I think people should wait to teach people about the critical race because even if you are taught early I feel not everyone is mature enough to really understand what the hold thing is about. Not all teens are mature but most are and can really understand.

 @9GSGFHM from California  agreed…3yrs3Y

The maturity level of this theory should not be taken lightly, and teenagers will have the maturity needed to learn about it.

 @9FMSJX8 from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I feel like it is stupid to be teaching kids about race. We are all just people. Forgive the past and move on

 @9FPSLNKdisagreed…3yrs3Y

Claiming that the government is systemically and inherently racist just causes division and more racism in the country.

 @9FPSRN6disagreed…3yrs3Y

children should not be taught things about race at such a young age. We are not born with racism, it is taught, and any discrimination based on race, is racist.

 @9FSKQ9NPeace and Freedom from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

They need to be mature enough to understand and not take it out of context. They need to be mature enough to have their own opinions.

 @9FMQYWX from Nevada  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Just because they are teenagers does not change my original response. Even if they were adults, everyone is influenced by the views and ideologies of those close to them, so the result would still be the same.

 @9FNGYJFIndependentfrom Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teaching about critical race theory is a waste of time. It would be more beneficial to teach students about the actual history, and what the repercussions are.

 @BDPQ3DX from California  agreed…1mo1MO

teaching kids who already have a fundamental understanding of fairness and justice from their k-6th/5th education that the government and society has flaws is a good thing. CRT is a heavy and complicated topic but important for youth to understand going into their developmental years.

 @9GL9DR6 from Texas  agreed…3yrs3Y

You need to mature quite a bit, understand the presence of inequality in our society, accept that change is necessary, and then join together to combat it. Maturity is necessary.

 @B7X8SNQ from Virginia  disagreed…8mos8MO

It is important to talk about historic racism like slavery and Jim Crow Laws and the civil rights movement because it is an important part of American History, but anything more than that is doing too much.

 @9GZNRT5 from South Carolina  agreed…3yrs3Y

During middle school and high school thats when our differences really show. In lower grades you don't notice much but once we become more independent than thats what leads us to seeing differences such as different allowances and incomes and clothing. Bullying is already a problem in schooling systems but mostly with higher grades because smaller kids have there teachers to monitor it and have a smaller understanding of the things around them .

 @9FQ3N3X from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

CRT should not be taught in any level of K-12 education. We should be teaching children not to see color instead of teaching that they have inherent evils or disadvantages simply because of their skin color.

 @B8DS433from Northern Mariana Islands  agreed…8mos8MO

As I claim in previous question, some research state that people can understand the complex history or such subject until 13 or 15. Otherwise it could be too complex for kid to study about that.

 @9H4RNKWDemocratagreed…3yrs3Y

Younger children may be confused by the gravity of race talk and while they may learn race at home once they are older teaching them in school is important.

 @9FPZFNFRepublican from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Critical race theory in K-12 education should not be allowed in school, this is something that should be taught at home if that is something you believe in.

 @9FTJKSLWomen’s Equality from Virginia  agreed…3yrs3Y

Teenagers have (or need) a more complex understanding of the world around them to be successful in the work force.

 @9FMRHBHdisagreed…3yrs3Y

No. schools should not teach this stuff kids have very delicate minds and corrupt teachers could try and manipulate kids

 @9FL2L3X from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

No it should not be taught in general no race is better than another no matter how much you may believe yourself better.

 @9H42JGV from Georgia  agreed…3yrs3Y

No child around the age of 5-9 has to know about racism. It's not really an important thing to know about at such a young age. It could confuse them.

 @9FSMXWJ from Missouri  agreed…3yrs3Y

When kids are more able to understand the motives and bigger picture of racism, they are mature enough to be educated.

 @9FR7KCJ from Colorado  agreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that children are too ignorant to political subjects, but should be available to teach once they come of age.

 @9FM2XKY from Florida  disagreed…3yrs3Y

No, schools should not be able to influence the kids learning based on what they believe. Especially because people would have a heart attack if they decided to teach Bibllical stuff.

 @9FPW9VW from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

people in our society talk a lot about race already, and having the subject further drilled into young could end up having the opposite effect, like it sometimes has on different issues. the fact is that if everyone would simply stop talking about and making such a big deal about race then racism basically wouldn't exist.

 @9FPXBN6 from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

People are not racist inherently and this teaches kids to be ashamed of their race even though no one in this time period really experiences racism.

 @BBHHN2PIndependent  from New Jersey  disagreed…4mos4MO

that is better but as young adults they should be taught and informed about racism and how it is wrong and how to move away from it. making them feel bad or a uneasy type of way about events that they didn't participate in or experience.

 @9FPWDTB from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think that they do not need to know until they are teenagers due to the fact that as kids that are 6-12 years old do not not actually know what they want to believe. They hear something and automatically think its right.

 @9FQYMRY from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

This is better, but I'd like to counter the whole argument by making it mandatory for students who are involved in PROVED racial disputes. We wouldn't want the youth to be wrongly framed and forced to go through a course they don't have to, and we wouldn't want to teach them about racial differences because what happens if that plan backfires?

 @9FNCVZ9Republican from Tennessee  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I do not think that K-12 students should learn about CRT from the viewpoint that that is how the world is. I am fine with it being taught on college campuses, just like Marxism or communism is. Learning about illogical and silly ideas and why they are illogical and silly is important.

 @9GCG2RP from New York  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Even when they are teenagers we shouldn’t be telling kids that they can’t succeed/ have only succeeded because of their skin color. That will never uplift society as a whole.

 @B7MD9PTRepublican from Texas  agreed…9mos9MO

I don't think that we should be teaching young kids about problems in the world until they have the ability to actually think about it. So while I think we should absolutely teach it I think waiting until they are a little older is a good idea.

 @BBP58P5 from Nebraska  disagreed…4mos4MO

We cannot keep holding people accountable for the actions of the past. There are plenty of ways to discuss racism without forcing it upon our children. We make racism a continuing issue by refusing to move on from the actions of past generations.

 @B9VLC5Y from Florida  disagreed…5mos5MO

teenagers are still very impressionable. We should not have teachers, people who students look up to, telling them that their government is inherently racist

 @B994N6Q from California  disagreed…6mos6MO

CRT is a propaganda tool by the progressive left designed to indocrinate youth a false narritive that systemic racism is ongoing when it infact legally been undone since 1964

 @B7KRVXTRepublican from New York  agreed…9mos9MO

Critical race theory should only be taught to teenager because they have a more developed cognitive skills to challenge what the theory is saying and to understand it on a better level. They can develop their own opinions without it being skewed with their better developed reasoning skills.

 @B7BTNHF from Virginia  agreed…9mos9MO

Once they're a teenager and can retain information better it'll help in educating the world and removing racist ideology's.

 @9HPWYY5 from Ohio  agreed…3yrs3Y

I think that while instilling anti-racism education in young children is obviously important, the nuances of Critical Race Theory may be a bit much for younger children, so getting into the nitty gritty of it should taught when they are a little more mature.

 @9HHPT5B from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

because they are not mature enough to fully understand it and teaching them could influence them into thinking them a certain way which is not their own, let them be kids while they still can.

 @9HBVPSS from Arizona  agreed…3yrs3Y

Once you're a teenager, you have more understanding or problems in the world and will be able to understand why things are this way.

 @BF2D6DW from California  disagreed…2wks2W

As teenagers, they should not be pushed to learn something that they could learn on their own if they seek it out. Our education should not be a system of brainwashing into what elites want them to believe, but rather train them to think and come up with conclusions on their own.

 @BDJJV39 from Pennsylvania  agreed…1mo1MO

While critical race theory has significant purchase as a legal theory, it has blind spots like any framework. An honest accounting of history is much more important to me than CRT. There are valuable criticisms of critical theory that need to be discussed as well. I am not for the suppression of knowledge and embrace open inquiry. It’s important to introduce young adults to a range of perspectives and let them debate. The question is also a bit misleading as critical race theory is not being taught in high school. It should continue being taught in college though I have no qualms about young adults being exposed to a wide variety of frameworks across the political spectrum. Debate is beautiful.

 @B9VCS3R from Mississippi  agreed…5mos5MO

Around middle school and high school is when those differences are really noticed. In lower grades you don't see much but once you're older, you've learned and experience with the world, and your cognitive functions are more developed that's what leads us to seeing and understanding those differences.

 @B9SB6XB from Tennessee  disagreed…5mos5MO

I honestly don't think it should be taught at any time but if you are determined to cause division at least wait until they are in college.

 @B9JT8X8 from Arizona  disagreed…5mos5MO

The teenage years are the years where most people get access to social communications and post things that they later regret. Teaching racism in the teenage years prompts more racist jokes and discrimination among the people in our American society.

 @B9B5Y37 from California  disagreed…6mos6MO

The Critical race theory in K-12 education should only be taught to students when they turn to teenagers because I think it would be perfect as while their brains would be mature and they would be nearing their time to be done with school soon.

 @B8XDJF4Independent from Washington  disagreed…7mos7MO

Teaching it to them in general without them seeking it first can place racist ideas in peoples minds that are detrimental to future social cohesion of society.

 @9HPWSJZIndependence from North Dakota  agreed…3yrs3Y

Waiting until a student is in high school is best due to the complex subject matter. It will be easier to understand, but it will be challenging due to parent influence.

 @9HPSV7MRepublican from New York  agreed…3yrs3Y

Children are less mature than teens, so teens can handle this learning of racism easier and should be easier to teach and practice.

 @9HPNS28Constitution from California  agreed…3yrs3Y

Children are immature and may not fully comprehend what the concept of race is other than maybe skin color. Teenagers will take this concept much more seriously because they will understand it on a much more sophisticated level rather than children.

 @9H998HY from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It does not matter at what age you decide to convince children that our country is inherently racist. It still only aids to the perceived problem that our country is racist. If our country was truly inherently racist, minorities would not be able to achieve the level of success that many have.

While this is an oversimplification, it makes the point.

 @9FNCJBT from New Jersey  agreed…3yrs3Y

Once kids are teenagers they can be treated like young adults so they can learn about why there was segreation

 @B8BR7FG from Tennessee  disagreed…8mos8MO

This is reasonable however at any point if you teach others to believe they are being harmed by racist laws, they will believe it no matter what.

 @B866TLD from Ohio  disagreed…8mos8MO

Critical Race Theory is once again a Marxist idea made to have people hate America and it's culture. Racism is now being targeted towards white people drastically more than the black community, due to ideas like critical race theory.

 @B7NYH97Constitution from Ohio  disagreed…9mos9MO

it still should not be a requierd class you should not force ideas into peoples head they don't want to know

 @9HH5MQTdisagreed…3yrs3Y

There is no reason for it to be taught. Not only is it a theory, meaning it is not a real science, it has no real use for students. The subject itself explains racism from a single, extreme perspective. It is better to teach real, blatant history. If students are educated well without bias, they will then form their own opinions.

 @BB4YZZ4Libertarian from Tennessee  disagreed…4mos4MO

I partially agree. At that point, they are old enough to make their own decisions. However, the problem is still in the peoples' choices, not in the system.

 @B9TM79WLibertarian from Ohio  disagreed…5mos5MO

STOP TALKING ABOUT RACE. The racists are the ones who constantly harp on race being an issue. We are all men and women under god.

 @B9MHCVTRepublican from North Carolina  disagreed…5mos5MO

Essentially, this actually teaches racism. It teaches that if you are black or another race of color, you are failing only because of your race and oppression from white people, that colored people need sympathy and support to succeed, and that if you are white, you are a racist and part of the problem.

 @B7T6CSMNo Labels from Massachusetts  agreed…8mos8MO

It is stupid that teenagers are expected to be taught there is a racist barrier keeping them from doing things based on the color of their skin

 @9G3T6PS from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

People shouldn't worry about race the reason there's still racism is because groups of people keep trying to make everything about them and thing, they should get rewarded for being a certain color.
