There are not big biological differences between races, and teaching that in schools is important so that all children of all races know that no matter what color they are, they are just as equal and capable as any other human. Now if we were to talk about culture and how that can cause more of the actual differences, that people assume is caused by race, that would be a different conversation. And even then, people of the same race that are raised in different cultures are not going to be the same just because of their race. A white person born and raised in the U.S. is not going to have the same life experiences as a white person born and raised in Russia. They are going to have different world views and cultures. SO YES, it is a social construct. Furthermore, Critical Race Theory is an academic study on the laws and institutions that have historically caused inequality between races. So, with Critical Race Theory we can improve these institutions and laws as we move forward as a society. Improvement and equity for all people should be the goal of any society, like the U.S., that contains so many different races, ethnicities, and cultures. If we are truly a republic, then our own government, that has promised to protect and represent us, should be concerned about all citizens, regardless of the demographics they fall into. So it is not about teaching your child to be ashamed of being white, it is about teaching all children how we can build a better future where everyone has a voice and is included.
