Defending Taiwan is a key part in securing democracy in Asia and countering Chinese aggression. The economic benefits of having Taiwan as an ally are still present, and without Taiwan chip manufacturing would be inaccessible to the US markets. We should still strive to uphold democracy in the world, especially when it counters our largest rivals.

Taiwan should be defended due to the Chinese economic growth and economic competitiveness, alongside the claim on Taiwanese territory from the Chinese, which increases tensions and military aggression anticipation.

Multiple studies estimate that if a full-scale war breaks out in the Taiwan Strait, the global economic losses could reach as high as $10 trillion, or about 10% of global GDP.

Saying “No” to defending Taiwan undermines U.S. credibility and emboldens China to use military force against not only Taiwan but potentially other allies in the Indo-Pacific. A refusal to act could destabilize the region, weaken NATO and other alliances, and signal that America cannot be relied upon to uphold international commitments. Defending Taiwan is therefore essential to deterrence, global stability, and maintaining U.S. influence.

It’s not just about Taiwan—it’s about preventing broader conflict and protecting democratic allies.

The strongest counterargument to the "No" position (non-intervention/abandonment) on defending Taiwan is that allowing China to seize Taiwan is not a neutral act of restraint, but a catastrophic geopolitical and economic event that would permanently shatter the U.S.-led international order and immediately trigger a global economic depression.

A war over Taiwan could cost trillions of dollars and hurt the world economy.
It could also cause many people to die and turn into a very big war.

we must defend Taiwan they are an allied to us so we must protect them and of course protect them from a communist invasion

 @BC9XBL6 from New York  disagreed…3mos3MO

If the U.S. does not intervene in Taiwan then it will give china the idea that whatever they do the U.S. will not intervene in any actions to not cause problems at home.

Taiwan is a major supplier of high tech chips, US does not have manufacturing capability to replace their production. We should come to the aid of any freedom loving country

Taiwan is the biggest computer chip manufacturer in the world and most of the worlds economy and everything is on computers so we should protect them

if we don't defend our ally, all our allies would see us as a liability, goodbye Europe, goodbye middle east acess, and the only thing we got left s the run down Monroe doctrine. aswell as us loosing trade oppertunities.
