Critical race theory should be mandatory in all NC curriculum because it helps explain why inequalities still exist today, even after discrimination became illegal. Its not about blaming people, its about understanding past policies and systems that continue to shape outcomes in areas like education, housing ad healthcare. If we want fair results, we should understand the roots and causes of disparities.

A difference in outcomes is not indicative of prejudice against the group with a worse outcome. In fact, the assumption that certain racial groups would have different outcomes when given the same legal rights (without a “hand up”) is a racist way of thinking. There are no laws or systems in the United States that disproportionately target any racial group. Inequalities of outcome are much better explained by differences in culture and socioeconomic background, so if we want to help those with worse outcomes, we should focus on eliminating barriers to upward social mobility like welfare traps and federal student loans instead.
