High-level negotiators from the U.S. and Iran concluded their first round of talks in Switzerland on Monday, establishing a 60-day roadmap to reach a final peace deal.
The marathon session was nearly derailed when the Iranian delegation briefly walked out following President Trump’s social media threats to resume attacks and seize control of the country. Despite the tension, the two nations reached an agreement to release $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets and outlined plans to end military operations in Lebanon. However, a major rift remains over nuclear inspections, as Vice President JD Vance claimed Iran agreed to oversight while Tehran officials publicly denied making such commitments.
Technical committees will continue meeting throughout the week to resolve these differences before the 60-day deadline for a permanent treaty.
