The whole argument just boils down to circular reasoning: expanding highways because people use cars instead of public transit, which leads to more people using cars, which leads to expanding more highways, which leads to, and so on. Public transit is way more sustainable not only ecologically, but also economically and socially, IF it is funded and developed enough. There are many people who can not drive, for example because of old age or because they are disabled, these people could be much more independent if there is a well-functioning public transit. It takes less space and has a positive impact on traffic if there would be less individual vehicles in favor of a reliable public transit. You wouldnt be **** ed by the gas prices as much. Don't let me start on climate change just read the **** ing IPCC Report.
