On Friday, a Utah judge held a high-stakes hearing to determine if prosecutors violated a gag order in the murder case of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
Defense attorneys for Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of the fatal shooting, claim prosecutors engaged in a "media tour" to influence potential jurors by discussing ballistics evidence. The defense is now asking the court to disqualify the death penalty as a legal sanction for this alleged prosecutorial misconduct. Prosecutors testified that their public comments were necessary to correct "mischaracterized" reports about the bullet evidence and deny violating any court restrictions.
The judge took the matter under advisement while also considering whether to allow cameras in the courtroom during the upcoming trial.
