Deadly Lebanon fighting continues despite a ceasefire, threatening a US-Iran peace deal

On Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21, 2026, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 16 people in southern Lebanon just days after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was announced. The Israeli military claims the strikes are retaliatory measures after Hezbollah fired dozens of projectiles and killed four Israeli soldiers in a drone attack. This surge in violence has stalled historic peace negotiations between the Trump administration and Iran, leading Vice President JD Vance to cancel a planned diplomatic trip to Switzerland. Within Israel, far-right ministers are demanding a total offensive against Lebanon,…  Read more

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz citing Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon

On Saturday morning, Iran’s military command declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to all shipping traffic, citing continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon that allegedly violate a new ceasefire. This strategic waterway is the world’s most vital artery for oil trade, and its closure threatens to immediately collapse a fragile peace agreement signed between the U.S. and Iran earlier this week. While Tehran calls the move a necessary retaliation, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated there is currently no physical evidence of a blockade and expects the truce to hold. Internal confusion rem…  Read more

Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz caused a blockage of oil, about 20% of oil became inaccessible. This cause oil prices to skyrocket. It gives Iran the vantage point and leverage against the US. There's a lot of back and forth with Israel and Hezbollah and there's no telling who is and isn't in the right. My opinion on the news is I think it's all ridiculous. The Iran-US war was very avoidable and the Israeli-Lebanon ceasefire's would be simple if they would both stop violating them.

India and Israel solidify a powerful strategic alliance despite global shifts

The deepening bond between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu has transformed India and Israel from distant acquaintances into primary strategic partners. This shift marks a significant departure from India’s historical policy of keeping Israel at arm's length to appease domestic interests and Middle Eastern energy suppliers. Under the Modi administration, bilateral cooperation has surged across defense technology, agriculture, and intelligence sharing, particularly following India's immediate support for Israel after the October 2023 attacks. Russian drones strike foreign merchant ships in Black Sea killing one sailor

Russian drones struck two foreign-flagged civilian ships in the Black Sea between Thursday evening and Friday morning, killing one sailor. The attacks targeted vessels flying the flags of Panama and Saint Kitts and Nevis, leaving five other crew members wounded. Ukrainian authorities reported that the ships were struck near the ports of Odesa, which serve as a critical hub for global food exports. This strike marks a significant escalation in threats against the "humanitarian corridor" intended to keep neutral trade routes safe. International maritime organizations are expected to review security protocols as insurance costs for Black Sea shipping continue to climb.

Trump mocks the new Obama Presidential Center while promoting his own rival library

On Friday, the $850 million Obama Presidential Center officially opened on Chicago's South Side without an invitation for Donald Trump. President Trump responded by posting AI-generated images of the site depicted as a trash-filled homeless camp, part of a long-standing personal rivalry between the two men. While the Obama Center features a 225-foot stone tower and public parkland, Trump is touting plans for a high-rise "Trump Presidential Center" that emphasizes luxury and scale. Supporters of the Chicago project view it as a historic investment in an underserved neighborhood, while critics like Trump argue the design is an expensive monument to ego. Political analysts expect the battle over these dueling monuments to intensify as Trump’s team secures a location for his own facility.

Counter-terrorism police investigate suspected anti-Muslim attacks that injured five in Edinburgh

Late Friday night, a 36-year-old man was arrested after a series of violent attacks across Edinburgh left five men injured. Counter-terrorism detectives took over the case on Saturday because several victims appear to have been targeted specifically for their Muslim faith. Witnesses described a shirtless attacker wielding a large blade, with video capturing the suspect claiming he was "protecting the country." Three of the victims remain hospitalized with serious injuries, though officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Local authorities are now coordinating with religious leaders to bolster security at mosques as the suspect remains in custody.

EU leaders demand new trade defenses to counter cheap Chinese imports

EU leaders met in Brussels this week to confront a record trade deficit with China that has reached €1 billion per day. To protect local industries from a "China shock" of state-subsidized exports, the European Commission was tasked with developing a new diversification law to penalize unfair competition. While France is pushing for aggressive U.S.-style tariffs, Germany remains cautious due to fears that a full-scale trade war would invite devastating retaliation against European automakers. The bloc is specifically concerned that Chinese overcapacity in electric vehicles and green technology will lead to the permanent deindustrialization of Europe's manufacturing sectors. Detailed proposals for these beefed-up trade weapons are expected to be finalized and presented by the Commission later this year.
