"Currently residing" does not equal citizenship. Unless you have citizenship, you legally cannot vote.

 @B9VBXBR from South Carolina  agreed…4mos4MO

I agree with this take. Allowing long-term foreign residents a voice in local decisions makes sense—they contribute to the community and are affected by the same policies. Thoughtful points like this are worth sharing.

 @B9V9D85 from North Carolina  agreed…4mos4MO

Agree; foreigners should NOT have the right to vote in our elections UNLESS they're already a fully naturalized citizen while also being a taxpayer themselves. "Currently residing" certainly doesn't mean citizenship.

 @B9V9GSB from Minnesota  agreed…4mos4MO

Citizenship matters--it is a significant factor. Allowing non-citizens to vote dilutes the voice of citizens.

 @B9VM2XC from New Jersey  agreed…4mos4MO

Tha doesn't make sense. You have to be a citizen. You have to show commitment to the country before you can have a say

 @BCX8WFY  from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

No sir only persons who were born here should have the right to vote and only allow that power to citizens.

 @BCY62CK  from Mississippi  agreed…1mo1MO

Legal citizens who have lived here long enough and taken the test and gone through the work of becoming a citizen have a right to decide on what happens here and thus the right to vote as they have obviously proved they have intentions of staying here, good intentions or not.

 @BCY5MGGProgressive from Illinois  disagreed…1mo1MO

People who moved into the country are still affected by the decisions of the President, their Governors, Mayors, and other officials. They should have the right to vote.

 @9F9S768 from Arizona  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Until they can pass a citizenship test to demonstrate their knowledge of US history and politics, foreigners are not ready to make decisions on behalf of US citizens. Furthermore, a nation cannot be governed by outsiders. We do not expect to have a say in the laws and governance of other nations. It's preposterous for a non citizen to vote.

 @B8RRCPN from Arizona  disagreed…6mos6MO

If someone isn't a legal citizen of The United States, they legally do not have citizenship which comes with the right to vote and other amenities. If they aren't citizens, they shouldn't get the same rights as immigrants that have come to America legally and worked hard to get a green card.

 @BD2RZY5 from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

Only U.S. citizens should be allowed to vote. People who legally reside in the U.S. should be allowed to vote because it's our country and we should be the ones who decide who gets to run it.

 @BD8B3XG from Arizona  disagreed…4wks4W

Citizenship status is essential to sovereignty. Non citizens do not have a right to vote in our elections.

 @B9DWYXJ from Arizona  disagreed…5mos5MO

Only citizens should be allowed to vote. Non-citizens do not share our culture, history, and life experiences, so they shouldn't have a right to influence domestic policy.

 @B8YYDD7 from Arizona  disagreed…6mos6MO

I believe that foreigners or anyone undocumented should go through the due process of becoming a citizen through the citizenship exam to become educated voters.

 @BD4L6FQNo Labels from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

I think foreigners shouldn’t be able to vote because they are not from the country, and most likely don’t understand the politics.

 @B9GGJ7L from Arizona  agreed…5mos5MO

From the colonial era to 1926, noncitizens could legally vote in many states, and by the late 19th century, at least 22 states and territories allowed noncitizens to vote in order to encourage immigration and settlement. Noncitizens, including unauthorized immigrants, pay billions in federal and local taxes. Allowing noncitizens to vote in local or regional elections is an established practice in over 40 countries worldwide, including Sweden and Norway. One of the primary "No" arguments—that noncitizens will illegally flood federal elections—is not supported by empirical…  Read more

Foreigners without citizenship should not be allowed to vote because it could cause a mass migration into the US just to sway an election, without getting a proper idea of actual American ideals.

 @B9T83GJ from Arizona  disagreed…4mos4MO

They should not have the right to vote because they are not U.S citizens. We do not go into other countries and vote in their land because we are not citizens.

 @BC97C9C from Arizona  disagreed…2mos2MO

Foreigners shouldn't vote in US elections because they don't need to focus on a country they're not from, rather they should focus on their countries elections or they should focus changing their country if they dont like it.

 @BD3VS4CWorking Family from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

The vote should be allowed for US Citizens. If the foreigner wants to vote, they need to follow the path to legal citizenship.

 @BBN6XHT from Arizona  agreed…3mos3MO

I think instead of strict regulations on voting, it should be easier for people to obtain citizenship. Foreigners are also affected by what is being voted on.

 @BB44K98Republican from Arizona  disagreed…4mos4MO

If they are a citizen of this country they can vote. If you aren’t a citizen you shouldn’t have a say in federal elections that effect citizens

 @B9PLTVJ from Arizona  disagreed…4mos4MO

I think foreigners' right to vote should be limited to local elections and only if they are permanent residents. They should not have the ability to elect the US president unless they become citizens.

 @B9326HG from Arizona  disagreed…5mos5MO

Foreigners are inclined to vote for and elect officials that allow their illegal immigration, hence decreasing the American democracy and interests represented in elections.

 @BDQ45NC from Arizona  disagreed…1wk1W

Foreigners have zero moral claim to vote in another nation's elections. They can participate in their own countries. Immigration should be radically curtailed—merit-based, low-volume, high-assimilation only, with immediate deportation for violations and no path to citizenship for most. The franchise belongs exclusively to citizens by birth or rigorous naturalization after proven loyalty. Anything else is not democracy; it is the suicide of nations by inviting the world to vote on the spoils. Natives have the right to say: this is our house. You don't get to move in and vote on remodeling it into something unrecognizable.

 @BD2B4T7 from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

Voting rights in a democracy are traditionally tied to citizenship because voting is not just about living in a country, but about being a full member of its political community with long-term obligations and accountability. Allowing non-citizens to vote risks weakening the link between political power and civic belonging, since foreign residents may be subject to different loyalties, may not face the same enduring consequences of policy decisions, and can leave the country without long-term responsibility for the outcomes they helped shape. Citizenship provides a clear, stable boundary for who “the people” are in self-government, whereas residency alone makes that boundary fluid and potentially inconsistent.

 @BCV5BMT from Arizona  disagreed…1mo1MO

Yes Foreigners are not from here, but if they are working as hard or even harder as a person who is born here, they should be able to vote, of course with minimums such as 5 years residency and legal status.

 @B9YHS9M from Arizona  agreed…4mos4MO

Some of these foreigners may be a better understanding of the current political standings and may have backgrounds in fields like governance that would allow them to make better choices.

 @B9SYPGY from Arizona  disagreed…4mos4MO

If you are illegal and are here voting, you will vote for the politicin whos policys support open boarders which would allow you who is illegal, to stay in this coutry that is a major advantage to swing election in a close race a politicin can send illegals who have no voter id to swing states and other states that have no required voter id to swing elections.

 @B8VXDF4 from Arizona  disagreed…6mos6MO

granting foreigners the right to vote undermines the core principle that democratic decision making should be reserved for those who have fully committed to the political community through citizenship because only citizens share the long term obligations and consequences of national policies and allowing noncitizens to vote could weaken the meaning of citizenship reduce incentives for integration and introduce concerns about outside influence while alternatives like easier naturalization can promote inclusion without changing voting rules

 @B88QS4K from Arizona  disagreed…7mos7MO

Foreigners should not be allowed to vote because this is not their country and they were not from here.

 @BD87XS3Libertarian from Arizona  disagreed…4wks4W

Constitutional rights are granted to US citizens. If you're not a citizen, you don't have our rights. That's not to say they shouldn't be treated with dignity and respect. Also, if you want the constitution to apply to illegal immigrants, it must be applied in full. This includes the right to bear arms.

 @B8PZR3F  from Arizona  disagreed…6mos6MO

If too many illegals come into our country and vote for someone who supports open border then everyone will come in and cause problems

 @B89TFT8 from Arizona  disagreed…7mos7MO

I think that if you aren't familiar with our country and are just visiting you shouldn't have the option to vote.
