Well, I can't speak for all religions, but in the case of Christianity, you shouldn't turn people away from God. He loves all of his children, even the those in sin, and you are doing more harm than good by discouraging them from having a relationship with God. As someone who has always been gay, I loved going to church and I still believe that I have a strong connection with God. However, I don't understand why other Christians turn people like me away. It may be a sin, but everyone sins, and God already knows what we will do. Also, if you have your own beliefs about the LGBTQ…  Read more

Churches have a duty to speak the Truth of God's Word, without respect to the orthodoxies of fashionable opinion. The TRUTH is that God has condemned homosexuality as a moral abomination, and as such, Churches have a duty to preach that. God commands you to turn from your sin. You are 100% right that he still loves you, but that does not mean that you are given permission to sin, nor that all other persons ought to be forced to accept or even celebrate your immoral choices. I hope sincerely you will one day repent.

I don't care about God. I don't care about the Bible. It's a bunch of fictional nonsense written to control, suppress free thought, and kill joy. God genocided almost the entire Earth once, including innocent children. God murdered a man for pulling out. The omnipotent God unleashed suffering on innocent Egyptians rather than simply solving things peacefully. This is not a God of love, this is a God of hatred, pain, and oppression. God has done all of these terrible things and he wants to dictate how consenting adults may love each other "unnaturally", what a frivolous thing to do when homosexuality occurs in nature. The concept of original sin is the same concept as karma used to punish people for things they never did, establishing an unfair hierarchical society.

Can you find proof that the Bible is fictitious? I want to see that.

Innocent until proven guilty, false until proven true. The Bible is full of contradiction and superstition. The belief in the Bible (and Christianity as a whole) is done on the basis of faith, which by definition is the belief of something without solid proof. Only an idiot would do to such a thing.

Well, there’s carbon dating and the timeline of the Bible, but how can you prove something to someone who rejects the most accurate and universally accepted way of proving facts (the scientific method)?

 @9ST7HGX from Texas  commented…2yrs2Y

Let's assume your premise is true for the moment. Why does god condemning homosexuality give you the same permission? Whether or not gay folk have god's permission to sin is irrelevant to everyone except the gay person and god. You, the outsider, don't have to accept or celebrate anything except your own relationship with god. If you're gay and ashamed, that's on you and your religion to work out. Trust me, gay people have enough societal shame, made worse by religious zealots, and do not need all these nobodies trying to make them bear the burden of their shame too.

Your belief doesn't matter.

Freedom of Religion allows you to believe whatever you want to, but it also allows me to not have your beliefs impact the laws which influence my life.

I don't believe in your imaginary friend god. Your belief in him and his laws mean nothing to me. Your religion has 0 part in my life and should have 0 part in my marriage since marriage is a legal right.

That is a heartfelt perspective. However, one could also argue that the essence of respect means acknowledging and honoring others' deeply held beliefs, even when they differ from our own. For instance, while some Christians indeed embrace the LGBTQ+ community, there are others whose interpretation of their faith leads them to a different viewpoint. It's not about turning people away from God, but a conscientious adherence to what they believe their faith mandates.

These Christians who believe that the LGBTQ+ people are not sinning have been influenced by false teachers, namely the worldly people. True Christians do not try to push people away from God, but rather we try to get them to recognize their sin and repent.

And forcing your opinions on them by refusing to allow them to get married by federal law is NOT doing that in the way you are supposed to...

 @MAGA_Deplorable from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Homosexuals can't get "married" because marriage is between a man and a woman. They are forcing their opinions on us by demanding that the government sanction their immorality even when Christian taxpayers disagree with it.

 @9Y9MYBKRepublican from Arkansas  commented…2yrs2Y

Yes everybody sins but you know this and are still choosing to constantly live a sinful lifestyle.

 @7PTCG38Democrat from Wisconsin  commented…3yrs3Y

Ok, here's the thing. I believe strongly that people have a natural disposition as to whether they are attracted to people of the opposite sex or people of the same sex. And regardless if a person is heterosexual or homosexual, they should be entitled to unite and spend their lives with the partner that they love. But it's undeniable that in the Bible, marriage is a sacrament that is defined as being between a man and a woman. So my question is...why are gay couples not happy with the categorization of being in a civil union ? You are still under governmental recognition of being united to another person.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…2yrs2Y

They want equal treatment, in many ways, it’s being viewed as a second class citizen, so instead, either all legal marriages are civil unions, or we have two definitions of marriage. (Legal and religious).

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

They don't want equality, they want license, they want to force everyone to celebrate their depravity. Marriage is between a man and a woman, as defined in the Bible.

they want to force everyone to celebrate their depravity

And you want everyone to believe your extremist views

 @9V3F5VQ from Florida  commented…2yrs2Y

Because a civil union does not bring the same social, financial, and medical benefits as marriage. E.g. a civil union does not automatically endow your partner with next-of-kin rights in case of incapacitation, disability, or death. A civil union between a biological parent and non-biological parent does not automatically defer custody of children to the non-biological parent if the biological parent dies. And a civil union does not allow surviving partners of soldiers and veterans to receive military benefits.

Legal marriage is not the same as religious marriage. "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's."

 @B4VT3PZ from Georgia  commented…1yr1Y

Yes I agree with religions not having to support, but marriage is done/legalized in a courthouse, not a church.

 @B6K9PKWProgressive from Illinois  agreed…10mos10MO

Marriage is a LEGAL contract. If someone is religious, they can CHOOSE to have it done in a church. But those of us who are queer and are not religious still have the right to be married.

There is little to no anger from straight non-religious people getting married, so this is obviously not just about people being angered about the "sanctity" of marriage being a sacrament in the Christian church.

Those of us who don't believe in the same imaginary friend as them should realize that Freedom of Religion doesn't just allow them to believe what they like, but it allows US to be free from their faith as well.
