The macroeconomic incentives for succeeding in growing your economic output do not go away when you put a floor for people to stand on. Humans are still driven to improve their material conditions even if that means they do not currently live in abject poverty. What UBI does is provide a straightforward, non-means tested, non administrative state based solution to the problem of poverty.
