ICC judges sue Trump administration to overturn personal sanctions
On Wednesday, three International Criminal Court judges filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to challenge sanctions imposed on them for their judicial work.
The judges, including Canadian Kimberly Prost, argue the measures represent unlawful political retaliation following the court's investigations into alleged war crimes in Israel and Afghanistan. These sanctions include freezing the judges' U.S. assets and restricting their ability to use American financial systems or travel to the country. The U.S. maintains that the ICC is a "kangaroo court" that oversteps its jurisdiction by targeting citizens of non-member nations like the U.S. and its allies.
A federal court in New York will now determine if a U.S. president has the legal authority to sanction international officials over their legal rulings.
