Former NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ top aide arrested in migrant shelter bribery scheme
On Wednesday morning, federal agents arrested Frank Carone, the former chief of staff to former New York City Mayor Eric Adams, for allegedly accepting bribes to secure migrant housing contracts.
Prosecutors claim Carone took over $100,000 from a hotel owner to steer city business toward a migrant shelter during the height of the city's asylum seeker crisis. Simultaneously, the FBI and NYPD internal affairs raided the homes of high-ranking police officials, including former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, as part of a separate corruption inquiry. These actions follow a long string of investigations into the inner circle of the former mayor, whose own federal bribery case was dismissed last year.
Carone is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court later today as investigators continue to execute search warrants across the city.
