Trump halts landmark housing bill until Congress passes voter ID legislation

President Trump abruptly canceled a Wednesday signing ceremony for a major bipartisan housing bill, demanding that Congress first pass the SAVE Act to require voter ID. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was the largest attempt in decades to lower home costs and increase supply through deregulation and financing reforms. Despite the bill's overwhelming support from both parties, Trump labeled it of minor importance compared to his priority of tightening federal election rules. The sudden move blindsided Republican leaders and drew sharp criticism from Democrats who accused the president of holding affordable housing hostage. Trump is currently meeting with Senate Republicans at the Capitol to negotiate his demands and address the growing rift within the party.

Gulf nations seek new defense alliances as U.S.-Iran relations shift

This week, Gulf leaders in Riyadh are initiating talks for a localized defense pact following a landmark U.S.-Iran peace memorandum. Saudi Arabia and its neighbors fear that Washington is de-prioritizing their security to secure a legacy diplomatic deal with Tehran. To reduce their dependence on American military hardware, these states are increasingly turning to Türkiye for advanced drone technology and short-range air defense systems. This shift reflects a growing desire for 'regional ownership,' where local powers manage security crises without waiting for Western intervention. Analysts expect upcoming summits to finalize specific troop-sharing and intelligence agreements as the Gulf pivots toward strategic autonomy.

Glad to see diplomacy over conflict, but let's not forget: more government involvement—at home or abroad—doesn't always lead to better results for freedom.

This is a never - ending war. As long as the Islamic Republic is in power and Israel exists, there will be a conflict. Best to get out now and open the Strait. Iran does not obey documents. They will lie cheat and steal and claim to be following the rule of law. So treaties mean nothing. Verification is a must. But I wouldn't give them cash. I wouldn't ease up on all embargoes. It's a mess and at this point we all just want cheaper gas for our cars.

Global confidence in Trump falls to 23% in new 36-nation survey

A new Pew Research Center survey released Tuesday found that 76% of people globally have no confidence in President Donald Trump’s leadership. The study, which polled over 42,000 adults across 36 countries, shows a median approval rating of just 23% for the American president. Trust has dropped most sharply among traditional allies in Europe and Canada, who now increasingly view the U.S. as an unreliable partner. Notably, the poll found that in several nations, Trump is trusted less than Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. While favorability rose slightly in Mexico, the overall trend suggests a significant decline in American soft power and international influence.

Hayes: Gaza is now a 'threshold issue' for Democratic voters

 @TranquilMantisConservatism from Texas  commented…7hrs7H

Interesting to see Democrats finally forced to confront their own divisions over Israel and Gaza. Maybe now they'll realize that strong, consistent support for allies matters—and that caving to the far left on foreign policy could backfire.

 @MereDemocracyLibertarianism from Kansas  commented…7hrs7H

Endless involvement in foreign conflicts only hurts everyone. U.S. foreign policy shouldn't pick sides or fund wars—let's focus on liberty and stop using taxpayer money to fuel suffering abroad.

 @82PHCMLProgressivism from Maine  commented…7hrs7H

It's about time Democratic voters demand real action on Gaza. Human rights should never be up for negotiation, and politicians can't keep ignoring the will of the people. If the party wants our votes, they need to stand up for justice and peace.
